That’s because America’s pig farmers are dedicated to continuous improvement by combining the best in animal care with the benefits of modern technology and the latest in research. The We CareSM initiative was launched in 2008 as a joint effort of the National Pork Board, the National Pork Producers Council and state pork organizations representing farmers from across the country. Its mission is to encourage farmers and their employees to use best practices in raising animals that uphold a core set of ethical principles. These include:
- Promoting animal well-being.
- Producing safe food.
- Protecting public health.
- Safeguarding natural resources and the environment.
- Providing employee safety and education.
- Giving back to the community.
